ABSTRACT
Toyota Motor Corporation has developed a new five-
speed automatic transmission (A750E/A750F) for longitudinal front engine rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicles. The development of this transmission has been aimed at improving fuel economy and power performance, achieving the world's top-le vel weight and compactness,
while maintaining high torque capacity. In order to achieve this purpose, the gear train, torque converter, and other
components are completely changed, and advanced technology has been applied. Mo reover, this automatic
transmission has achieved high-quality shift feel and quiet performance. This paper describes the major features and performance of this transmission in detail.
INTRODUCTION
Environmental and energy efforts, such as reducing carbon dioxide to prevent gl obal warming, are important
activities for the world in the new millennium. Thus, it is a natural mission for the automaker to improve fuel efficiency with new technology, while maintaining power, driveability, and NVH charac teristics demanded by the
customer. With this mission, we have developed a new five-speed automatic transmission for RWD vehicles. This automatic transmission has been developed to perform under severe conditions required in a SUV, while maintaining the refinement deserving of a luxury vehicle.
DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES
The development goals for the automatic transmission are as follows. 1. Improved power performance
2. Fuel Economy 3. A total package that reduces weight, increases
compactness, and improves rigidity 4. Smooth shift feel 5. Improved quietness
